Meet Jeff

Jeff Longbine is a fourth-generation Kansan and small business owner. He grew up in Emporia and attended Emporia public schools. Jeff studied business administration and played football at both KU and Emporia State University.

Jeff followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather working in the family business. He started out sweeping the shop floor and eventually took over the business, Longbine Autoplaza, which he now owns and operates. In 2010, Jeff was recognized as TIME Magazine’s Dealer of the Year for his business achievements and community service. 

It is Jeff’s commitment to community service that led him to serve in the Kansas Senate. Jeff was first elected in 2010. Today, he serves in Senate leadership as Vice President. Prior to being elected to the Senate, Jeff served on the city commission and as mayor. 

Jeff has been active with several local organizations, including the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas. Additionally, he has served as a trustee for the Walter S. and Evan C. Jones Foundation, the Emporia State University Foundation, the Flint Hills Technical College Foundation and United Way of the Flint Hills. In 2007, the Emporia Gazette honored Jeff as “Citizen of the Year.” 

Jeff and his wife, Gwen, have been married more than 30 years. They have three children – their son Greg passed away in 2005; their daughter Lauren is a graduate of KU; and their daughter Lexie is attending Washburn University.
